Those Were the Days: A poem about college days

Those carefree days of classes and plays,

Of rushing to get out at the ringing of the bell

And dashing to the Nescafe

Before the rest of the lunch crowd.

Those long lazy afternoons in the canteen

Discussing everything from geopolitics to Taylor’s ME!

And bunking the classes just because

The debate over American and British classics was more riveting.

Oh! Those long days and longer nights

Of cursing Freud and Adam Smith

And praying and wishing

That no question should be from ‘Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening’.

But it wasn’t that bad because the sympathy and

empathy of the friends in the same boat

carried us across the vast ocean of dismay and despair

Over exam scores and parental scolds.

Those were the days of friends and friendships.

Of believing you knew everything in the world

And knowing you know nothing.

Of worrying about the future which seemed far away

And then coming back to what are we having in lunch today.

Those were the days!
