Things I Don’t Appreciate in Winter: A poem for those who miss summer

The cold windy walks in the evenings.

Strolling in the neighborhood looking for the ice cream cart.

The pitter patter of the rain against the blue gray tarmac.

These are the things that I don’t appreciate in the winters.

Kneading cold butter into the flour to make flaky croissants.

Heating food again and again because of traffic jams.

Jamming sessions over iced lemonade and cold beers.

Are the things that I don’t appreciate in cold foggy northern winters.

Waking up in the middle of the night with my quilt on the floor.

Tossing and turning on the mornings without any sun lore.

A book with romance on the beach or murder on the rainy street.

Are some more things I don’t appreciate in the sunless northern winters.
