A novice poet's magical journey with words

I am not the poet you want me to be: A poem about poetry

This is a poem about not wanting to meet the expectations that others have from a poet. Let me know what you think about this poem about poetry in the comments below.

Sometimes I want to write about pretty things like mountains and seas.

Sometimes I want to care about rhyme scheme.

Sometimes I want to lie down and watch a trashy comedy.

Sometimes I want to sleep without getting up to jot down the delirium inspired lines of poetry.

Sometimes I want to say no to writing a love poem for your lover.

Sometimes I don’t want to write poems with a hidden meaning.

Sometimes I don’t want to gather the strength to rhyme in front of nineteen people.

Sometimes I don’t want to discuss philosophy over spaghetti bolognese.

Sometimes I don’t want to understand the difference between prose poetry and narrative poetry.

Sometimes I don’t want to be the poet you want me to be.

About the poet: Armaan Rai is a poet who writes about nature, moments and memories, and nostalgia. She uses simple words and phrases to capture the beauty and complexity of the world around her. She believes that poetry is a powerful tool for expressing emotions and connecting with others.

She started this blog, Oregano Oranges, as a way of connecting with other poets and readers. She wanted to create a space where she could share her work, learn from others, and get an opportunity to touch someone’s heart.
