This poem is dedicated to a pair of red slippers that I had when I was seven. I hope you enjoy this poem that takes me back to my childhood.
An Ode to my Red Slippers
At the age of seven, when I started liking things with shine and bling
My mother took me to a shop to get bathroom slippers.
She was probably expecting that I will pick
The ones with blue straps and white base,
The quintessential Indian bathroom slippers.
/
But me being me, a little girl of 7,
I picked the shiniest red you can imagine.
Today I will call it gaudy and plasticy,
But for that little girl it was the prettiest thing she had ever seen.
They had cheap tiny plastic flowers and butterflies
And they were two shades of red, if I am remembering right…
