A novice poet's magical journey with words

How to prolong the shelf life of fantasies: A witchy poem

This is the latest entry to my list of mystical poems. I love the witchy aesthetic that I occasionally add in poems. In this one, I decided to go all in and this is a poem about witchy solutions that can prolong the shelf life of your fantasies.

How to prolong the shelf life of fantasies

/

I asked my favorite witch

To give me a potion

That lets me prolong the shelf life

Of my poetic fantasies.

/

The sea foam haired witch

Took her sweet winter time

And called me back at spring equinox

Only to hand an instructionless bag of mystifying objects.

/

After sleepless weeks of haunting thought,

I trudged up the hill and knocked on the distressed red door.

What should I do with the aventurine and sage and rosemary you gave me?

When should I burn the candle and what do I do with the expensive looking ornate mirror?

/

Her blue eyes smiled and stopped my rant.

I took the offered floral cushion and sat.

How many poems have you written since the equinox?

None, I replied, when I wanted to say stop messing with my head/your witchy bag is messing with my creativity/I need answers fast, please.

/

We sat in silence for seconds/minutes/hours/maybe days/it can’t be months, right?

Until I got up and left, defeated and tired.

Then fall arrived and I lit the candle on fire,

Boiled the rosemary just the way I like,

And sat down to write

While slowly realizing the cryptic solution the astute witch had provided.
