It was a real challenge to write this poem for GloPoWriMo because I have never followed any rules while writing poetry. I did enjoy the process more than I thought I would. Hope you enjoy reading it.
What goes on in the tattered brown house in the hills
/
There is a tattered brown house in the hills.
It overlooks the valley of childlike hope and fairytale dreams.
I have lived in it for twenty five years.
/
Filled with books and paintings of adventure and villainy,
Of love and heartbreak and drama and deceit and unfulfilled, still breathing dreams,
There is a tattered brown house in the hills.
/
My friends generally glance at the rustic wooden door and worn out stone and use the term antiquity.
I always ask them to carefully look past the facade and they might just realize that not everything is as it seems.
There is a reason I have lived in it for twenty five years.
/
Surrounded by wind blown apple trees, cedars, douglas firs and Campanula Piperi,
There is a room with an escritoire, easel stands, half finished canvases, paint drips, unpublished scripts and a long burning dream,
In my tattered brown house in the hills.
/
It’s a place where my life can just be
A book with creativity and art as the sic passim or maybe even the theme.
That’s why I have lived in it for twenty five years.
/
I hope you don’t require an epiphany
To start living the life of your dreams,
Just like the one I have in the tattered brown house in the hills,
Where I have lived for twenty five years.

GloPoWriMo Prompt Day 11: Take a look at Kyle Dargan’s “Diaspora: A Narcolepsy Hymn.” This poem is a loose villanelle that uses song lyrics as its repeating lines (loose because it doesn’t rhyme). Your challenge is, like Dargan, to write a poem that incorporates song lyrics – ideally, incorporating them as opposing phrases or refrains.
About the poet: Armaan Rai is a poet who writes about nature, moments and memories, and nostalgia. She uses simple words and phrases to capture the beauty and complexity of the world around her. She believes that poetry is a powerful tool for expressing emotions and connecting with others. This blog, Oregano Oranges, was started as a way of connecting with other poets and readers. She wanted to create a space where she could share her work, learn from others, and get an opportunity to touch someone’s heart.
